Machine data in the form of system logs and metrics data can contain valuable record of user transactions, activity, system exceptions, security threats, fraudulent activity and more. Invariant Operational Insight collects machine data and enables you to index, search, monitor and analyze your system data from one place in near real time. 

 Invariant Operational Insight provides IT staff the ability to capture, search and analyze large amount of machine data in near real time. Most modern business applications are distributed across multiple servers, operating systems and technologies. Application performance management solutions are used to monitor for uptime and performance and to alert operations in case of issues. However it is not sufficient to monitor just for uptime, Operational Insight provides complementary benefits such as long term trends and patterns analysis based on log data along with deep-dive capabilities so that you can answer the “why” questions. 

Operational Insight continuously ingests and indexes log data making it immediately available for search. Because it indexes log events in both full-text and by-field formats, you get control over search that is not possible without writing complicated expressions using UNIX tools such as awk and sed. Moreover you no longer have to manually copy logs over from multiple servers before you can analyze them. 

Operational Insight can consume any text-based data, including logs in different formats from different servers and programming languages continuously and in real time without enforcing any predefined schema. Also any system or process that has access to the network can forward log data. For systems where you do not want to modify the existing logging configuration, you can simply rsync the logs to a central server for forwarding.

The log events are parsed and then streamed onto Operational Insight’s NoSQL database for long term storage. The data is then indexed and key metrics are computed.

Rich Dashboards can be used to visualize system activity, access and exceptions. Customers can build dashboards by dragging and dropping visualization widgets. Operational Insight runs on Linux servers – CentOS, RedHat. The user interface works with all modern browsers including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft Edge. 

Operational Insight can help troubleshoot operational problems and monitor your end-to-end infrastructure to avoid service degradation and outages. More sophisticated algorithms for analyzing abnormal patterns and deviations for unexpected events can be applied.
